Forgetful laptop

dear friends,
my dvd-rom plays video cd's but not dvds. i have an updated win dvd player,
but still the media is not recognized in the dvd rom. any idea?

If it won't even recognize there is a DVD in the drive, it sounds like the
DVD laser has died. It uses a different laser for the CD.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you're desperate, you can get an
external drive which will connect through USB 2.0 or through firewire (if
your notebook has that capacity).....

Notebooks can be expensive to repair..... they are one of the ONLY items I
consider an extended guarantee is a good choice.

Yes Cari,
I was also thinking the same. Just one query, instead of an external drive,
if I get a gaming console like PS or XBox to play DVDs, can I use my laptop
screen instead of a TV?

Only if your notebook has a TV In or Video In capability and 95% don't.
They usually have TV Out only.
