hotfixes and system performance

Hey, first post here.

Hope you can help me.

Can anyone tell me if I can remove all these bloody
hotfixes that are clogging up my machine after windows
updater has automatically installed them?

My system has been running slow for ages and, when i go
in to add/remove programs, I appear to have about 24 20MB
files all labelled 'hotfix'.

When i go to remove them it tells me that my system will
revert back to something or other!!

Please help.

You can uninstall them, however you also remove the fix they provide.

Try these for speed issue:
Run an updated virus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online:
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=IRLFIZTYMWPAZTJWUFJ
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it)
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it)
This may apply if you recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 1:

You can safely delete the uninstall files for the updates.
Once you are sure you will keep Windows XP Service Pack 1.
The files may be hidden, to show the file:
Go to C:\WINDOWS
Click the top TOOLS, click FOLDER OPTIONS, click VIEW
Check the radio button. "Show hidden files and folders"
Click OK and you should now see more files.

Go to C:\WINDOWS and delete "$NTServicePackUinistall$" about 240 mb.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs.
Click Service Pack 1, there will be an error since you just deleted
the file.
Click YES to delete the shortcut.

Use similar procedure to delete similar files for the updates.

brilliant.

I'll give it all a try. ad-aware is downloading right
now.

I'm using a free virus checker from grisoft.com.

i take it this will be powerful enough.

I'll make sure i post an even bigger thanx if it makes
the desired difference.
