mouseover drop down text overlaps text on page, unreadable!

Hello,
I would appreciate any suggestions on this problem. When I
place my mouse over an area that has a drop down menu, the
text overlaps with the text already on the page, thereby
making it unreadable. I am wondering if there is a
solution to this, such as adding a background/color. It is
really aggravating!
