cd/dvd drawer problems

Hi lately the computer has been unable to redognise dvd and cd RW discs reading them as read only. As well as that the actual drive itself wont respond to opening and needs the computer to be shut down before it will open the drawer.

Any ideas????

I have a NEC with a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA 4163B dvd/cd driver, if that makes any sense to anyone?

I've run all teh virus scans i can, all the spyware and registry programmes and all say the computer is clean and that the dvd/cd drive is running properly so i dont know what else to do.

Any ideas??????

Sorry do you mean the physical drive or the drivers? I have tried to update the drivers and re-instal but it says i have the latest driver and its working properly.
