Screensaver not always coming on

My AMD X2 system runs WinXP Pro SP2. Standard XP screensavers.

Sometimes the machine will be standing idle for a long time without
screensaver (which is set for 5 min) coming on. It is still fully
responsive... only the screensaver doesn't kick in.

Not a major problem, but slightly annoying.

Any ideas?

I have just typed "Screensaver won't start" in Google. There are a number of
discussions of this problem online. Perhaps one of them matches yours.
