I have a relatively new install of XP Pro. I've installed all the updates
and have tried to be careful what software I install.
When I first installed the OS, the system loaded very fast.
Now the system hangs, freezes or something when I boot it.
I've tried restoring a previous state.
I've tried holding down the "Shirt" key hoping that might eliminate a few of
the variables that might be causing problems. Doesn't seem to make a
difference.
I can see my background but there is no taskbar no desktop icons, just my
mouse.
If I bring up the task manager there are no programs running.
When I do a shutdown or restart after a few seconds the system indicates
that "explorer.exe" is not responding and gives me the option to "end task
now". The system will reboot at that point.
I can start the computer in Safe Mode.
What am I missing in trouble shooting this problem??
I'm hoping someone here can help my solve this problem.
Thanks for you time.
