We are a conservation non-profit org. with a dormitory for visiting
scientists and grad student interns. I need to set up a couple PC's there
for (mostly) recreational use, although I'm sure they'll use it for work,
research, etc. I don't want the PC's to get "messed up" and I'm still
building on my skills, so did so looking and found this free product at MS -
here's the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/default.mspx

Has anyone used this for public PC's? And what was your experience? Good,
bad?

It works very well for what you want to do. It can be a little complicated
to setup the first time you try it. It may take a few tries to get it
working how you want. I highly recommend you give it try. I have tried other
programs and also using group policy to lock down public computers. The
Shared Toolkit was the easiest to set up and administer of any other method
I've used.
