After running Windows XP Professional without problems
for a year, and although my PC is still running OK, the
event log of Windows XP is lately reporting a strange
error message:
"Service Control Manager: Timeout (30000 milliseconds)
waiting for a transaction response from the Netman
service" (Event ID 7011).
The explanation of this error from the Microsoft Support
site is as follows:
"Explanation: A boot-start or system-start driver is
dependent on another driver or service to start. These
drivers should depend only on a group.
User Action: Ask the person with administrative rights
on your computer to change the dependency to refer to a
group rather than another driver."
Unfortunately, this explanation means nothing to me. The
error message also does not tell me which service is
causing the error, i.e. which sevice requires the Netman
("Network Connections") service to be running.
In order to trace the problem, I have kept a log of
startup times. From this, it seems that the problem does
not occur at startup, but rather at times when the PC
comes out of standby, although the error does not occur
every time.
I have checked which services depend on the Netman
service, and the only service listed is the "Internet
Connection Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing" service.
However, I am not using either of these Internet services.
Both the Network and Internet services have the startup
type set to "manual".
I have thought of changing the startup type of the Netman
service to "automatic", but fail to understand why this
problem is suddenly appearing after running XP for a year.
Can anyone help me in getting rid of this error message ?
