View Full Version : File attributes: Modifying and user-created file attributes

I think I remember reading somewhere that it is possible to make (and modify)
"user created" attributes for files, and to have those attributes appear in
columns in Windows explorer, alongside the "default" columns, such as:
Name, Size, Type, Date Modified, Date Created, Attributes, TreeSize, Owner,
Author, Title, Comments, Artist, Album Title, Year, Track Number, Genre,
Duration, Bit Rate, Protected, More...

Does anyone know where I can find information about this?
Does anyone know where I can find a utility that would facilitate doing this?

Thanks,

marceepoo

You can only add information to comments. And some files will not let you
add any comments.

[[To add a comment to a file

1. Right-click a file.
2. Click Properties.
3. On the Summary tab, type your comment in the Comments area.
-or-

On the Summary tab, click Simple, and then type your comment in the
Comments area.

Notes
To display the comments you add to files, double-click the folder that
contains the files you want to view. On the View menu, click Choose Details,
and select the Comment check box, and then click OK. On the View menu, click
Details to see comments for several files at once, or select a file and
click Details in the left pane to view the comment for the selected file.]]

Hello ,

Thank you for posting.

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: You want to know if it
is possible to create or modify the "user created" attribute for files. If
I'm off base, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research and tests, we can not create or modify the "user
created" attribute for files. We can only add specific "Summary" to the
file as Wes mentioned.

I would like to thank Wes for his great experience sharing. You can follow
his steps to add summary to a file.

If you need further assistance on this issue, please feel free to let us
know. We are glad to be of assistance.

Sincerely,
Kenxl Zou
