DVD-R in Windows XP

I recently bought a DVD-VCR recorder for my home theatre system (Samsung
VR-320). I copied some old VCR tapes to DVD, using a DVD-R (Memorex), and
finalizxed them. According to the user's manual, the DVD-R should now play on
any DVD player. My problem is that when I insert the DVD into my DVD player
on my Windows XP Home Edition SP-2 PC, it does not recognize the DVD. When I
click on my desktop DVD shortcut, I get a message saying "Drive F:\ is not
accessible. The file and directory is correct and unreadable". I tried
disabling Nero In CD,disabling the IN CD Helper serivice and re-booting, but
with no difference.

Anyone have any idea why I can't play the DVD-R in my PC? Note: I can play
it in one other of my DVD players - a Panasonic changer, but not in another
one - a JVC single disk player (it only palys in slow motion with no audio).

Your PC's DVD "F" drive may require a firmware upgrade.
The issue of compatibilty with the ever expanding range of
blank media is nearly always addressed by a firmware upgrade.
To do so: Identify the manufacturer of the drive, and exact model,
visit the site, locate their downloads link, follow the instructions
for firmware updating. (It involves "flashing" the drive.)
Your JVC standalone player probably has the same issues.
This is more tricky, though some DVD players are equipped
with a serial port for this type of upgrade.
Alternatively only use blank media that you know your kit is
not incompatible with.

Checked my drive's web site (IOMAGIC) - no firmware or driver upgrades
available. E-mailed their tech support for any ideas.

Did you try this link?
In the drop down menu's, select type of device - Rom? burner?etc
then select exact model..................
