no sound in movie maker

i have svideo coming from pc into scart on my vcr. when i try and transfer
video to computer i get great picture but no sound. tried adjusting audio
levels, is it the cable.

Yes it's the cable. S-Video is (as the name suggests) video ONLY. Audio
will come in through a separate cable to the Line In port on the sound card.
S-Video CANNOT carry audio.

I have a JVC digital camera and an HP Media Center. I can import the movies
from the camera, but I don't get the sound. I've tried component and
Firewire cables to no avail.

Component In????? That would be a first. I presume you mean composite in.

Firewire will carry both audio and video...

But with composite you will connect the yellow cable to the Video In, and
the Red and White to a minijack going to the soundcard or soundchip, you do
have to ensure that the Audio In line is not set to MUTE which it often is
by default.

Click on the speaker icon in the Systray. Click on Properties, then ensure
the RECORDING tab is checked..... once it displays, ensure that Line In is
not Muted.

WMM is not designed for analog video... digital via firewire would be the
preferred method. BTW if you find any way to import component video, the
world is waiting!!!
