Hello:

Anybody out there know what would cause the mouse to
freeze and then the computer locks up. The only way to
unlock the computer is to shut it down. Control, Alt,
Delete will not work. We are running Microsoft XP on a
Sony Vaio. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

All kinds of things. Video drivers. Mouse drivers. Sound drivers. Actual
hardware problems.

Start by reducing video acceleration. Right click the desktop, select
properties. Go to the settings tab and hit the advanced button. For
diagnostic purposes, disable write combining and slide the performance
slider all the way left. This will rather dramatically impact video
performance negatively, but if this stabilizes things then it tends to
pretty much prove it's video and/or mouse related.
