In windows XP on the start menu there should be two
options, log off and turnoff your computer, the symbols
are a yellow key (Log off) and a red button with power
symbol (turn off....) You should click on the red button,
this will bring up another window which will show another
3 buttons, standby, turnoff and restart. Choose the
middle red button, turnoff.
If you do not see either of the buttons then a programme
has changed your startmenu.
Alternaterly on most computers now when you press the
main power button on the case it will cause a safe
shutdown of your computer.
Message back if this helped.
