Import files issue

Hi, I've encountered an issue where MovieMaker stalls when I've stopped
importing a clip. Everything seems to work fine up until I finish importing
my video from my analog camcorder. At that point a box saying Import appears,
a bar titled Importing appears and finishes, then a second bar underneath
that one stays empty and the program appears to stop responding completely.
Using Task Manager to view what's happenig show that Movie Maker has not
stopped responding, however I am unable to continue. Using CTL ALT DEL will
close Movie Maker however the imported clip will not be there when I reopen
it. This issue was not apparent for small files that I tested at under one
minute in length. Anything longer than one minute causes this to happen. Very
frustrating and I have been unable to resolve it on my own. Does any one have
some guidance? Thank you.

Windows Movie Maker really isn't designed for capturing analog video, but is
great for digital video. I suggest you try a third party software such as
Roxio's VideoWave, Nero, WinDVD Creator (Intervideo) or Cyberlink's
PowerDirector.

To capture from an analog cam, what is it connected to?
An external USB hub? Or the analog inputs of a PCI capture
card?
Capturing analog via a PCI card is very intensive "on the fly
conversion", It probably is simply a case of it being too
demanding a task for your PC.
Capturing DV-AVI footage from a digital camcorder via
firewire is straightforward "dumping" to HD of pure AVI
format, being fully compatible with WMM.
For analog capture you may find you have success with
an external hardware encoding unit from the likes of
Pinnacle (Their Showcentre unit) or Hauppauge.
