Error messages galore

After reading newspaper articles on "hacker" attacka and
a "hole" in windows XP; I installed microsoft's patch per
Bulletin MS03-026. They also said I needed other updates
and proceeded to install them. As per instructions I
said "yes" to reboot after the 15 minute upgrade.

The computer rebooted, the windows welcome sound came on,
and then my wallpaper........but, no icons to enter
windows. I turned the computer on and off several times
to no avail. Then I turned it on and left it on for an
hour while I went shopping. When I returned, the icons
were there and an error message saying the system had
recovered from a serious error and it should be reported
to Microsoft, which I did. Details of error:

C:\windows\minisum\mini041103-02(etc)
C:\docume~1\anthony\temp\wer47.tmp.dir001\sysdata. xml

The above may be inaccurate to some extent because I
can't read my notes...which were taken in haste and panic.

Since that time the same message has occurred
sporadically on boot-up, but won't let me send the
message to microsoft...I have to shut down over and over
until I get a "clean" reboot. Also, I'm getting tons
of "applications not responding" messages. Especially,
on outlookk express.

Questions:
1. How do I print the error message from microsoft to
avoid losing it in my lousy handwriting?

2. Is there any way to get MSoft to help without
bankrupting myself?

3. How do I get a list of what upgrades MSoft has done to
my computer...especially the last one?

4. Can any body give insights or solutions for this
problem without having to reinstall windows?

Error messages are logged and can be viewed using Event Viewer. Look in =
the section dealing with System Errors and post copies of Errors ( not =
Warnings or lesser messages ).

1. To open Event Viewer, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click =
Administrative Tools, double-click Event Viewer and select System for =
system errors or Application for application errors. Look for Error in =
the Type column and double click on Error to reveal a Description of the =
error. This can be copied by using Clipboard Viewer (see later).

2. Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you =
should double click for further information and you can copy using copy =
and paste.

3. For some errors you will find "+ Related Knowledge Base Article", =
which if double clicked takes you to the Knowledge Base Article =
containing a suggested solution.

There always seems to be a step 2 but not always a step 3.=20

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports (Step 1). Run Event Viewer and =
double click on the error you want to copy. In the window which appears =
is a button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close =
Event Viewer. Now start your message ( email )and do a paste into the =
body of the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer =
Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the =
first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. It can be helpful to place =
a shortcut to Event Viewer on your Desktop.
