After downloading these updates, the system locked up when
clicking on the internet explorer and other icons on the
task bar, as well as when I right clicked on icons on the
desktop (except Internet explorer). After removing the
three updates, the system worked fine.?????

Hi,
It seems Microsoft's patches leave a lot to be desired.
I had so much trouble after downloading the three patches
you have designated that I removed two of them. The
third one, 819696, has to do with Directx and is not
removable. I searched (Start/Run/Dxdiag/OK) for the
version of Directx on my machine and downloaded a newer
version. In my case that meant going from 9.0a to 9.0b.
Things are better, but I suspect that version 9.0b has
the patch, also.
