Slow network acces

DESCRIPTION:
1 - I use the old Norton Commander v.5 in a console on WinXpSp2.
2 - I map a shared folder on my LAN: NET USE Z: \\pc\folder (in Z: are
about 100 old dbs's files)
3 - I change the folder tin NC to Z:
4 - I have to wait about *15 seconds* to browse the content of the Z: folder

QUESTION:
Is there any way to speed up that browse operation?
