XP Backup is Crippled

Please correct me if I'm wrong, or point me to a fix/patch....

From what I can determine, XP's backup can backup to a file (single =
file), or to TAPE....period. There is no way to get it to back up to a =
CD or DVD writer other than as a single file. In other words, it won't =
span multiple CDs or DVDs!!!

Given the price and speed and capacity of tape drives, did MS not think =
that people would want to back up to OTHER types of removable media? I =
have a great DVD writer, but can't use it for backups!

Well, okay, technically I can because the drive came with some backup =
software, but that software is pretty dumb -- dumber than XP's backup, =
can't save profiles (have to go in and include/exclude every time), =
doesn't show what files it's working on etc. XP's backup is a decent =
program, but not supporting popular, fast, cost-effect, removable media =
makes it pretty useless! Heck, my drive supports drive-letter access, =
so why can't it back up to it like a floppy....Oh...wait...it doesn't =
support that either. If you can span tapes, how hard could it be to =
span disks? It ought to be simpler.

Does anyone know a way around this? Patch? Freeware?

Like Jym said just backup to a New Folder on the Hard drive and then from
there you could move it to a CD.

No patch and no way to autospan CDs but here are some work-around

That's not too practical if you're using more than 50% of your disk!

Then maybe you need to buy a full featured back-up application instead
of the basic NTBACKUP provided with Windows XP.
Basic applications often lack the features of their full featured
counterparts.
That also does not mean they are "Crippled"
