How to transfer VHS & DVD to my computer's HD?

I have no internal or external video capture card, because I don't know which
one to get. I tried DVD Express external box and it failed after one try, I
returned it.
Which video capture card (external or interna) and which software will work
the best with MS Windows XP?

Your Processor, ram, and at last a poster's PC with efficient FSB (800mhz),
Your PC should have no problems with any of the mainstream internal PCI
capture cards. Surprisingly a PC of that spec is not already equipped?
Are you Europe/UK/Aus based? If so the German OEM Medion is supplying
Scart capture cards - only of use with Pal/Secam. Though I can't find the
link
right now?

cards" and of external capture devices?

Having bought a Media Center Edition 2005 PC, I'm suprised your not trying to
find some hardware that comes with OEM MCE to add to your PC, if you are
moving video/DVD/tv processing?

www.canopus.com check out the advc range of external models and they also do
internal, but I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head. As has
been mentioned the other good make is miglia.

These two makes stand out for external as they connect by firewire to the
pc, so any app will work with it. It captures as a dv-avi file, the best you
can get, audio adn video are hardly ever out of sync, as they have locks
inside to help keep them together.

I have an ATI TV Wonder Pro installed internally in my machine, It comes with
an external connection for both composite and S-Video input and has a coax
connector on the back of the board to cover any input and MS Movie Maker
already accepts the tuner card as a capture device.
