View Full Version : defrag and cleanup not completing

Whenever I do a disk cleanup, I notice on the compressed
file section still has files it says it can compress, but
does not compress them (going to 0 after doing it). The
defrag program also does not complete the process, saying
it cannot defrag some files, where it used to do before I
replaced my hard drive and added memory.

Colin;
Disk Clean-up:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=812248
Or
Follow this link:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 48, Right column "Disk Cleanup - Compress..."
Save on Desktop.
Double click the icon once downloaded.
The icon can then be discarded.

I went to the second link, and modified the cleanup file.
I was also wondering why XP has the compression feature
anyway (for old files)?

Colin;
To save space, however as you saw, it does not always work.
It compresses files that have not been used in a while.
I do not know what the exact criteria is.
