film size increases ?

Hi, Can someone please help explain when I encode a DVD using the WME9 and
get a file size of say 350MB at 500kbps, then I take the movie into Windows
movie make to split it into clips when I them find that the clips are now
near 875kbps but the file size hasnt changed.

What I need to know is why this compression has increased ? am I doing
something wrong ? is it infact makeing the quality of the film better? cause
I cant see how if the film size doesnt increase with it.

Thats the data rate transfer speed, measured in kilobytes per second.

It's not "compression", it is XP/WMM utilizing your system's resources to
make the new files at as near to real time as possible, if you had been
using other app's and resources at same time, the rate would have been
slower,
or conversely if indeed you were doing other things with your PC when
creating
the files, it would have been even faster if you had not been?

And No, "quality" cannot be "increased". - But resolution can.
If I take a high resolution digital picture of a creased and faded vintage
photo,
the result will be a pristine digital hi-res copy of a creased faded vintage
pic
with all shortcommings fully revealed.
You really cannot improve over the source meterial,
There are filtering etc but these elements available
with some software will always be at the expense of
something else. eg: reducing smearing will be at the
expense of definition etc.

It's how effective your system was at producing the files,
it didn't add or detract anything, it was just quicker.
