I am running XP Home with a P4 1.6GHZ. The machine is
constantly restarting itself. I have replaced the
processor and power supply and do not have anu viruses.
Does anyone have any sugestions.

Thanks

Can you boot into Safe Mode? Hold the F8 key after the memory test to =
get the startup menu. Boot into Safe Mode. Then right-click My =
Computer and choose Properties. Go to the Advanced tab, Startup and =
Recovery section, Settings button, System Failure section. Uncheck =
"Automatically restart." Now when the system fails you will see a blue =
screen with some information on it. That may give you a clue as to what =
is going on. Or you can post that information here. =20

By default, XP is set to restart on errors. Go to Control Panel, open
System, go to the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery,
remove the check from "Automatically Restart" under System Failure.

This will cause the system to blue screen on errors instead of restart and
it might give a clue as to the source of the issue. Also, check the Event
log, go to Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look
for errors that correspond to when the restarts take place, double click,
the information in the error message may give a clue as to the cause.

Finally, while at the XP desktop, place the XP CD in the drive, when the
setup screen appears, choose "Check System Compatibility," this may point to
problem devices or software on your system.

That's a bit vague. Why did you suspect the processor and power supply and
nothing else? Why did you stop just there?

You also want to disable automatic restart on system fault so you can see if
the system is cycling itself in response to an application or hardware
fault. Do that by right clicking My Computer (or hitting winkey-pause). Go
to the advanced tab and hit the settings button in the "startup and
recovery" section. In the middle section is an option to automatically
restart the system on fault. Disable and apply/OK your way.

You can also check the event log (start->run->eventvwr.msc [enter]) to see
what errors, if any, are being generated.
