Hi,

I downloaded a file that was actually a virus. Good news is that I found out
right away, because that file disabled Windows XP Firewall. Since that was
suspicious, I ran an anti-virus right away which cleaned my computer from
this virus (Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic.TIM).

Unfortuantely, I cannot enable the windows xp firewall anymore. I open
WINDOWS SECURITY CENTER, click on RECOMMENDATIONS, which opens a new window,
and then click ENABLE NOW. I get the following message:

"We're sorry. The security center could not turn on windows firewall. To try
turning on firewall yourslef, got to windows firewall in control panel. In
the windows firewall dialog general tab, selec ON and the click ok"

Of course I tried...when I double click on Windows Firewall icon in the
control panel, I get the following message:

DUE TO AN UNIDENTIFED PROBLEM, WINDOWS CANNOT DISPLAY WINDOWS FIREWALL
SETTING.

Help....thanks !

Your computer is still not clean .

Thanks for the name you provided
Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic.TIM
but unfortunately this doesn't help a lot ,it just says the type of
infection =>Generic trojan.

Ok,visit my web-site
http://pandaman.hit.bg
and perform the fast malware removal instructions in my web-site.Use
McAfee's tool.

At the end , when your computer is clean (you have scanned and cleaned with
all tools and online scanners) and if your WF is still not working do this:
Try running the System File Checker (sfc.exe),
this will scan all protected Windows files to verify their versions have not
been overwritten or damaged,
and if so will replace the compromised version with a fresh copy.

To run it, click Start->Run and type
sfc.exe /scannow

Make sure you keep handy your Windows CD/Recovery CD which you received when
you bought your
Windows / computer because you'll need it to do the repair.

Do not hesitate to contact the Community again! :)
