View Full Version : Starting movie causes blue screen

My Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop (WinXP SP2) has a newly replaced CD/DVD combo
drive. It was working fine for about two weeks. Now, however, inserting a
movie causes a blue screen with the error message below. I can still
listen/play CD's and use a DVD data disk. Is this a driver incompatibility
issue? What would you recommend for a fix?

Thanks,

Owkmann

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for
any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your
computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Otions, and then select Safe
Mode.

Hi,

MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS - Most often caused by a hardware driver issue.

Try updating the drivers for the hardware that you installed.

I hope this helps!

It's generally a driver error:

Since you seem to have only got this since the new combo was fitted, I would
contact Dell.

Cari,

I tried unloading all my video software, and re-installing the MS supplied
driver (Philips CDRW/DVD CDD5263) with no luck. I bought the CD ROM /DVD
drive from a third party distributor, instead of talking to Dell. Of course,
they (the third party) deny all wrong doing. I think I'm stuck with a junk
drive. Any other ideas?

Thanks
