View Full Version : System Hangs when DVD+R is Inserted

I am having a problem playing back burned, finalized DVD+Rs in my computer,
which is dual-booting to Windows XP/Windows 95 (compatability with older
programs.)
The DVD+R are from a TruTech DVD Recorder. This unit works in conjunction
with your television/vcr to record onto DVD+R.
When running Windows XP, the system totally FREEZES when the DVD+R is
inserted. I don't have to press any buttons, click anything, or otherwise
prompt the computer to malfunction. Once the DVD+R is inserted, the system
freezes, end of story.
The system does not freeze when I insert store bought DVDs.
When running Windows 95, the system does not freeze, regardless of what I
put into the DVD Drive. It will play all discs back fine.
What is causing this problem? I really would like to rip some video from my
DVD+Rs, but I cannot, because the ripping programs are not compatible with
Windows 95. What should I do?

Are you sure the optical device in your PC is compatible with DVD+R
disks.... do you see the same behavior if you put a DVD-R in the drive?

As per my previous post, the system DOES NOT FREEZE when the same DVD+R disc
is inserted while running Windows 95.
I have not tried DVD-R in my computer, because my recorder does not support
discs of this type.
Again...I don't think that this is a hardware problem. Windows 95 accepts
these discs without error, while Windows XP totally dies.
