computer originally had Win 2000 operating system we
installed Win XP but left Win 2000 on system as well. We
now want to totally delete the Win 2000 operating system
so that only XP is on the system. How can I do this
without totally wiping the HD and reinstalling only XP

Did you do a dual boot on the same Partition that Win2K was on? You have
to modify the boot.ini file removing the
reference line relating to the Win2k operating system. Check here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q314081 Also, you
can remove the Winnt folder and anything pertaining to Win2k.
