I have installed XP Home on a computer nearly nine months
ago. At first it seemed fast, but now it seems to be
getting slower and slower as the months go by. I'm
wondering if there's anything I can to to increase the
speed. Also, I would like to know if there's any good
software available for download that cleans the registry
for data no longer needed. I heard of something to
download from Microsoft to tweak the system for make it
faster, but I forgot what it was called. What could it
have been?

Thanks for any help!!!

You may wish to perform a "tune-up" that may help:

1. Perform a DISK CLEANUP:
(Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup)

Note: You may wish to use System Mechanic (www.iolo.com)
to rid your system of old files, invalid shortcuts, and to
clean/optimize the registry. You may try it free for 30 =
days.

2. Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter. In the Command
Prompt window type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter, answer "yes" and
reboot your computer.

3. Afterward, perform a DEFRAG of your hard drive.

Stop some of the programs you have running in the background, uninstall =
programs you don't need, run disk cleanup, defragment your drive, =
Bootvis (unavailable right now) but XP does the same thing every 3 days.
