one should make a habit of backing up the system.
steps for windows xp automatic system recovery
1) start> accessories> system tools> select back up>

after this is invoked select advanced which is labled blue
in color .

2) Click on automted System Recovery (ASR)
a) it prompts you for a backup
b) create a backup of the system save it as <name>.bkf
c) after the backup is created it prompts up for a blank
floppy to store the ASr information
d) now this process is finished

3) boot through windows xp cd select automated system
recovery by pressing F2 at start up
rest evry thing will work fine and your system would be
restored from backup created...
