View Full Version : Needs help for desktop & wallpaper

Hi,

I'm using Winxp, Win 98 on P4 machine with 256 MB RAM.

I've resized my windows xp parition (earlier 20 GB) to 12 GB with
partition magic to make space for Linux Suse. Partition Magic works
nicely but when i started Win XP (now having 12 GB partition with
around 6 GB free on it), my desktop doesn't look nicely.

All wallpaper seems to be stretched on the dektop except 1028*768 size
wallpaper, which is my current resolution. The icons on the desktop
also found to be damaged. & now they doent shows wallpaper pass through
icons & texts, rather they are now covered in the box of blue
background color, like icons shows in Windows 98.

I've reinstalled display driver, tried different resolutions but with
no result. I've also changed all visual effects turned on, but still it
doesn't work.

Suprisingly, when I logged on to my another account (user account), I
have found that it is working fine, and there are no such problems of
desktop image/icon. It means, only my current account (administrator
type) is damaged only, & device drivers are working properly.

I didn't understand, what could be the problem, i've also defrag my all
partitions to see the effect, but doesn't happen.

What could be the problem & how can i get everything back to normal.

Thanks in Advance
Arkentos

try this
right click empty spot on desktop > select properties >appearance tab
>effects
you can enable all of these but I believe you are referiing to drop shadow.See
article id=305117

Desktop icons and icon labels may not display background transparency or the
drop shadow effect in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP

This really is an XP question, not 98. All XP questions should be asked
in the XP ng's.

However I will suggest a thing or two.
Look around here: for a possible solution:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm

Try a Repair install to see if it sorts it out:
How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

Hi arkentoss,

there is also a way to do a similar task from control panel > system
properties but Ill reccommend this instead

Download and install Tweak UI powerToy from Microsoft and use its "disable
active desktop" function.
