I am having trouble burning Data Disc's on my Pioneer with Nero 7. I'm
told I should get more recent Firmware ( whatever that is??)
My question is how do I get this firmware and is it reversible (like
software installations) thru system restore,,,,just in case I screw it
up ( as Usual)

Thanks

As you are so unsure about what firmware is and how to do it I'd recommend
not doing it. Or get a friend who is more pc literate and get them to do it
for you.
For info though, the firmware needs to be installed into the drive, as far
as I know is irreversible - though I could be wrong, I've never tried to
reverse it, and you have to be very careful doing it, any interuptions could
leave the drive unuseable.
The firmware will come from Pioneer.

It's not usually reversable...... think of it as flashing a BIOS.

Firmware for Pioneer drives can be found at:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/article/0,,2076_4273_128163990,00.html

Just for the record, I have 2 Pioneer burners (A06 and A08) and have flashed
both of them, in the case of the A06 more than once) and it's not failed...
but I do usually ask the computer gods high above for their blessing before
I hit enter.

I've always seen the warnings about not flashing back to a previous
version and since I never had a need to, I never tried until last year.
I had flashed my burner to the newest firmware, but it caused
problems(for example no longer being able to create multi-session CD's).
Not being able to solve this any other way I figured why not try
reflashing to the previous version. So I did. Burner back to normal
behavior and no ill effects. Maybe I was just lucky this one time.
