I have a pixma IP4000R, printing from XP Home Edition. I really like this
printer and its photo quality. However, I get intermittent horizontal lines
when i print text from Internet, Word, Acrobat, including printer's test
page. These horizontal lines are 90 degrees to the way the paper feeds and
occur randomly across sheet. I have spent hours on help line with Canon
Technical Support, performing all print cleaning, testing, adjustment, new
cartridges, etc. They quit, saying "It must be a Microsoft text quality
issue; contact Microsoft. Click." Can anyone offer a suggestion or
direction that I could proceed in? Thank you so much.

"including printer's test page."
Basically tells you that it's not the applications.
This leaves several other things. (Unfortunately)
I assume that the printer is connected via USB.
Are any other devices using the same USB Port, perhaps thru a HUB?
Have you tried printing direct instead of spooling (Usually an option inside
the printer driver.) How about setting "Raw" mode in the printer driver? How
about changing the printer port (in the driver oprions) to non bidirectional
(uncheck the box)

Have you cleaned out the temp files, at least to the extent that you used
tools etc. in IE to delecte the temporary inter net files?
How full is your hard drive, and have you defragged it lately?

It the printer and PC plugged into the same power source, such as a plug
strip?
Are you using a laptop with a "low power" USB port?

One possible internal problem in the printer is an odd printer memory
failure mode that passes internal self test, yet will not properly store
data.

The only way to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the problem is an
internal printer problem is to replace the printer with an identical model,
and have it work properly.

Other possibilities, such as using a different printer model tend to prove
that the PC hardware and system software are ok, leaving the possibility of
a printer or printer driver problem to resolve.

You might also try the printer on another PC.
