I have a fairly new computer with Windows XP
Professional SP1 installed by the manufacturer. I have
kept program installations to a minimum and do not
download questionable items from the internet.
Recently, whenever I click on My Computer or on a
drive in it, or click on the Start Menu, the desktop and
taskbar often freeze for a dozen or so seconds and then
refresh. Other times, an error message appears saying
that explorer.exe could not find a memory reference and
that "the memory could not be written". These freezes and
errors are becoming more frequent daily. Below is a
typical error from the event viewer:
Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106,
faulting module gdi32.dll, version 5.1.2600.1106, fault
address 0x00004474.
Since I cannot afford to reinstall Windows XP, is
there a less drastic solution to the explorer.exe issue?
Would it help to replace my current explorer.exe with a
fresh one?
