Recently I started using a router instead of connecting direcly. It's just a
router, no firewall. Since then, I am unable to keep my Windows Messenger
connected. It disconnectes after just a few minutes of inactivity. I still
shows that I am signed on, but when trying to write a message I get an error
"you cannot send a message because you are not signed on", and I have to sign
on again. Others do no see me as online either.
What could be the problem and how could it be fixed?

Hi,
I am also having the same problem
I am running a SBS server, behind a Cisco Router and a PIX Firewall
I have been assured its not the router or firewall
I am running Windows Messenger v5 and it seems to log on without any
problems, it will show in company web, sharepoint that I am on line, however
it will drop out mid conversation and leave the message "you cannot send a
message because you are not signed on"
I dont have MSN Messenger installed on the computer, and I have run all
update services on the clients and server
If you are able to help it would be appreciated

It seems to be a common problem, there is a theroy that the router resets a
NAT connection afer period of inactivity, it may not explain a dropped
connection mid conversation. see
