View Full Version : Server 2003 Domain Users (XP SP2) Cannot Print Unless Administrators

Hi,

I have a Server 2003 Domain Controller.

I have an XP SP2 Workstation which is a member of the Domain.

I have a Network Printer.

When a Domain User or Administrator sends a document to the Network Printer
(direct connection, local spooling etc.), this prints okay.

When a Domain Administrator sends a document to the Network Printer (as
connected via the Server, remote spooling etc.) this also prints okay.

The Problem:

When a Domain USER sends a document to the Network Printer (as connected via
the Server, remote spooling etc.) this FAILS.

The document stays in the queue marked with 'Error'; however no entry is
made in the Event Viewer.

Searching Google etc., I see this is a problem which reappears from time to
time, but I am yet to find a solution.

I have tried making the Domain User a member of 'Print Operators', and
whilst this allows them to Manage the Printer: they are still unable to
print.

If I add the Domain User to the Administrators Group, they are then able to
print.

In Summary:

For Domain Users & Administrators - Direct Network Printing within the
Domain is okay.

For Domain Administrators - Indirect Network Printing (Printing to a Network
Printer attached to the Domain Controller/Server) is okay.

The Problem: For Domain Users - Indirect Network Printing (Printing to a
Network Printer attached to the Domain Controller/Server) FAILS.

Any ideas offered would be greatly appreciated.

Colin

Hi Cari,

Thank you for your response.

This is the Script I used to add the Network Printer for All Domain (XP
Workstation) Users.

I found this Script whilst I was searching the 'net for a solution - Someone
else had/has the identical situation.

Unfortunately, whilst this is a great way to add a Network Printer for all
Users: it doesn't solve this particular problem.

Colin.
