burn a dvd

I have tried to burn a dvd from my lap top to a dvd disk, even as it will
write a tempory file but will not close the file when asked to, how can I
burn my dvd onto a dvd rw disk.

I am not sure which program, I was told it part of the software on my
windows, I can write to CD, but not sure how to get the DVD program to see if
it is there and if it is how to enable it to write and close the dvd copy to
disk. Will I need to buy and install software to do this. Thank your help.

Windows does not burn to dvds, only to cd's. Your laptop should have come
with an app to enable you to burn to dvds, look for the likes of nero/roxio.
Also, sometimes these apps are not the full ones, so although you could
write it to a dvd, it will only be a data dvd, not one which will play in
your dvd player, you need dvd authroing software for this. The same people
make it, it just depends on what you have.
