Hello first of all

I remeber long time ago, i had Win 98 and installed Win Me over 98
Then i've many erros with drivers and some friend of mine reinstalled 98
without formating HDD, all this from command line...

Now, i have a newer machine IBM T30 1 GB RAM etc, something desirable, as
many of my stuffs
But Win XP offers me not security as 2K used to do, so I'm wondering if I
could downgrade XP to 2K, if this is possible, should I have to buy a new
license or my License of XP works for 2K??

I hope both answers be optimistics, that i can downgrade and License no
problems...

For all your attention thanks

Not all WinXP Pro licenses are downgradeable. Only OEM and the
Select/Open Volume licenses can be downgraded. Further the WinXP
license remains a _single_ license: you can use it for its original
WinXP installation, or you can use it, if it meets the other
requirements, Win2K Pro.

Microsoft Downgrading Chart
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/downloads/downgrade_chart.doc

You would have to use a Win2K CD and Product Key that you already
have a legal license to use.

There is no "rollback" to Win2K. To replace WinXP with an earlier
OS, you'll have to boot from the appropriate boot disk, format the hard
drive, and install. There is no supported downgrade path or technique.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Adding to what Bruce Chambers has already outlined, here's an
article which provides a little more info on the downgrade
rights that are available with the OEM version of XP Pro.

Downgrading from Windows XP
http://www.wstore.co.uk/static_uk/promos/downgrades/downgrades.asp

If you're curious, go to Start -> Run and enter eula.txt in the
Open box and click OK. Scroll down to the section titled "Use
of Previous Version Of Software".

What I'd like to know is exactly what security features do you
feel are missing in Windows XP that were present in Win2K?

Is Windows XP Professional installed on your laptop?
Is the hard drive formatted NTFS?
Have you gone into Folder Options -> View page and disabled
Simple File Sharing?

If you've answered yes to each of these questions then you
should have the same level of file and folder security that you
had with Win2K.
