Sorry to repeat but a previous response did not work, we tried removing,
through the device manager, our display device and getting the newest driver
but the black screen keeps coming back. I'm real curious why we can not
format/install windows I can't get past the first screen, I insert the cd,
boot, divers are installed then the window that gives three options;
continue, restore or
exit. No keys work at this point, all we can do is manually shut down at
this point.

No, it's a black screen with nothing, not even the blinking cursor.

Try booting into VGA mode (F8 and select VGA ). Then completely uninstall vid
card and reinstall? Had similar problem whenever I tried to boot with 2 hard
drives I'd get the black screen and nothing. When I go in via VGA mode and
uninstall my Nvidea card then re-install it seems to fix.

Sounds like may be a power problem. The fix above only worked after I
unhooked my 2nd hard drive. Then did the uninstall/re-install as described
above.
