I have a Canon ZR50MC and have tried capturing video from both WMM, WinVD and
VideoWave. I can control the camera using the Videowave software, i.e. -
play, ff, rewind, stop, etc., but the minute I try and capture with any of
the programs I get error messages, specificall "An unknown error has
occurred" from WMM, WinVD goes into initializing.. mode and never returns and
VideoWave creates blnk video files from where, I do not know.
Using the same PC and cable I can conenct to a JVC GR-DVP7A-SL and the
programs will capture the video. Unfortunately, I own the Canon and the JVC
was borrowed just to dbl check the PC and cable.
Camcorder is not powered by the battery and is in VTR mode. The Camcorder
is listed in the device manager as Canon DV Camcorder.
Help!!!

Are you using firewire or another method to connect camcorder to PC?

i had this same problem, after much research and headaches i've found
out that you have to record your video in the SP mode NOT ESP!!! if you
record in ESP you can not export using firewire. those jerks at canon
never mentioned this anywhere in the manual for the zr50mc, and i think
ESP is the default mode!
