View Full Version : Why can't I download all the newsgroups?

When I try to download all the newgroups from my ISP, it gets to 29,000 and
something and stops dead! When I click cancel in the window, it shuts down
Outlook Express.
I've tried this quite a few times over the last couple of months with the
same result, it always freezes up at the 29 thousand count.
Using XP Pro on 56 K.
All replies appreciated, thanks!

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I connect at that speed LOL! Usually I
connect at 46.6.
I also just did the SFC/ scannow thinking some files went missing, but that
didn't help either.

After it froze again I went into task manager, and msimn.exe is using 90+%
of the cpu.
Any ideas?

My hunch is something wrong on the ISP side. Suggest you contact them.
Assume you have also setup to Microsoft's server at msnews.microsoft.com
and while there are not 29,000 groups on this server, at least you can
confirm your Outlook works ok. Could also try another "open" newsgroup
server somewhere which provides more than 29,000 but I don't know of any
that are open like this. Only ones I know of are connectd to my ISPs.

Thanks. I'm off this week and will do that. I was starting to think it
might be the ISP's problem.
