Windows Update Error messages

Hi
not sure if im in the right newsgroup.
when i try to save my personliaztion settings in Windows
Update it comes up with the box saying 'Windows Update
has encountered a problem' and the option to send the
error report to microsoft or not. (which i have )

the same thing happens when using McAfee Visual Trace.
Ive got my internet options on medium for security and
medium-high for privacy. im on XP Home, ie 6 all service
packs.
