Transfer user accounts but keep name XP Pro

[Bob S]

I am the only one who uses my computer. I use XP Pro and primarily use the
user account named "Bob", which has administrator privileges. I had a
problem with an important piece of software which was corrected when I
created a new user account with administrative privileges. So need to
transfer my settings and files to a new user account. However, I have a
number of macros written which call for files to be opened which are found
in c:\documents and settings\Bob\.... So, I would like for my new user
account to be named "Bob". My question is how can I transfer/copy my files
and settings from my current account named "Bob" to my new account named
"Bob". I am sure the task will involve either renaming my current account
or copying them to another account, deleting "Bob" and then creating a new
account named "Bob". But, when I tried renaming my current "Bob", to
"BobS", it changed it among the user accounts but did not change the
directory structure to read c:\documents and settings\BobS.

How should I go about this?

Your question is really about profiles, not about accounts. I gather
that you wish to inherit the properties of the "Bob" profile while
logged on as "BobS". Here is how you can do it:
1. Reboot the PC.
2. Log on as Bob and check that everything is the way you like it.
3. If the profile file BobS exists, rename it to something else.
4. Create another admin account (e.g. XXX).
5. Reboot and log on as XXX.
6. Control Panel / System / Advanced / User Profiles
7. Click the "Bob" profile and copy it to
c:\Documents and Settings\Default User
8. Log on as BobS

Thanks Pegasus. If all of my files are found in the profile now called BobS
(which is the one I have been using all along), shouldn't I copy my BobS
profile (rather than my Bob profile) to default user? Also, shouldn't I end
up logging on to Bob, rather than BobS?

It is a little difficult for me to say which profile you
should copy - you're the best judge for this! Suffice
it to say that you should select the most complete
profile and copy it to the "Default User" profile folder.
Every new account will now inherit its properties.
"New account" in this context means "an account
that has no associated profile folder".

Now BobS has all of my data files, music etc under BobS' documents.
However, the "My Documents" folder is still under "Bob". How can I change
this?

Move the folder to where you want it, then adjust the
properties of the "My Documents" desktop shortcut
accordingly.

Thanks for your clear and quick answers.
Now, if I want to have only one profile and for it to be the essence of my
BobS profile but named Bob, can I simply delete the Bob profile and then
rename the BobS profile to Bob?
