Help! I think I have a virus!

Hey!!

I have a Compaq Presario 8000z running Windows XP. I
turned on the computer last night and I had a pop-up say
somehing like "System Alert. Error Occured. NT
Authority/System. Your computer will turn off in 50
seconds. Save any opened work."

The system then counts down to zero and goes to Shut
Down. I don't know how this virus was passed on or how to
get it out of my system.

I am currently on hold with Compaq at work.

Any advice on how to get this off my home system? I am
pretty good with computers and hope you can give me some
advice.

Open XP's "Help and Support" and type: FIREWALL , and hit enter.
Click on the topic titled "Enable or Disable Internet Connection =
Firewall".
