I got to my computer this morning, and the icons and text are enlarged. I
tried going to display in the control panel. I am on the lowest resolution,
but the next step up makes the icons a lot smaller than before. I have also
messed with the display settings directly on my monitor and feel I have made
it worse. I restarted my computer and it doesn't change it back to the way
it was yesterday. Now I feel I have changed so much and made the problem
worse. My screen is actually shaking or vibrating too. How can I just
restore to the system defaults?

Altering the display to a higher resolution will have the effect of making
desktop icons smaller.

It sound like you may have altered the refresh rate, too high

How can I re alter the refresh rate then? Is that what I need to do? Is
make the refresh rate smaller?

Try a System Restore to before you had the problems and made any of the
changes.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
"Restore my computer to an earlier time"

If you right click on the desktop;
select properties>settings tab>Advanced
Depending on your adapter/driver you may see a screen with further tabs one
of which is your display adapter there will be a 'refresh rate' drop down,
or you may simply see a btn for 'List all modes'
A 'common resolution' would be 1064x678 with a refresh of 75
