Any advice on burning video from PC (WIN XP) to DVD greatly appreciated -
software recommendations etc.

Thanks in advance,

I use a mix of items, but recently have been quite taken with Nero 7.
I also use DVDSanta for ripping and converting (it also makes dvds).

Depending on exactly what you are looking to do,
you might want to snoop around in the rec.video.desktop
and rec.video.production newsgroups. Lots of good
info over there. If you are simply trying to make a
quick DVD, it is fairly easy -- if you want chapters, intro,
menu's etc, it gets more complicated, but there are some
good utilities that are not too $$$ out there. Make sure
your video is compliant with the DVD standard for
where you are (or where it is going to be played). For
NTSC DVD's, there are a couple of trap doors I have
encountered - the file ordering with the VIDEO_TS
folder is important -- some machines will play it if they
are not right, some will not. Also, the NTSC standard
(if I remember correctly) says at least one of the audio
tracks must be either Dolby or LPCM. Many of the
video editing programs do not follow that standard.
Most DVD players will handle a NTSC DVD that uses
mpeg layer 2 audio (?), however, I have run into several
that do not and it leaves you scratching your head trying
to figure out why the disk plays video/audio fine on one
player but only the video plays on another (been there
done that). As a general rule, your video needs to be
in the correct format mpeg2 to be used for a DVD.
