View Full Version : Unable to uninstall programs?

The last two programs I tried to uninstall have both failed with the error
'Could not Open Install.log file'. I know the install log is there because
I can open it in Notepad, I've tried having it open when uninstalling, but
get the same error message. The Programs were not unusual in that they
were the Free Radio Virgin Player and Ad Aware V 6.0. The only reason I am
trying to uninstall Ad Aware is to take the next upgrade and it recommends
uninstalling prior to loading the new version.
I get the same message whether I use the 'Add or Remove Programs' facility
in Control Panel or use the programs own uninstall.exe.
Seems odd that both programs report the same error message. Can anyone
help? Have I got a corrupt file somewhere?
FYI my PC is an Athlon 2000XP using Windows XP Home edition with SP1.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Stephen,
Boot into Safe mode, log in as Administrator. Uninstall from there.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, exactly same error message when I tried
to uninstall in Safe Mode when logged on as the Administrator.
As for the previous tip I am unable to reload the original programme as it
has been updated to the new version which is why I want to upgrade.
Guess the only way left is to delete the folder and the go into the registry
and delete keys relevant to the program. Don't really like going into the
Registry though but appears no option?
Thanks
Steve

Hi Stephen,
While in Safe mode, check permissions on the install.log file and on the
folder it is housed in.
