I have this worm which caused system to shutdown with
message that rpc system terminated. SO ... I disabled the
rpc in the hardware profile of the services section and
now the system is not functioning. I cannot do system
restore, and of course cannot enable the rpc service.
What can I do?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Reinstall Windows XP. never disable the RPC service.

It seems a rather drastic solution. If you should "never
disable the RPC service.", why is the option there to do
just that??

Don't know if it'll help. But have you tried to start up
your computer with the XP disc in? Don't know if it works
that way for XP or not. Or have you looked in your manuals
for a way to start in "Safe Mode"? Maybe this would allow
you to change the RPC setting. I disabled the RPC and
didn't experience this problem. Well I didn't cut it off
but I set section where it says Reboot System to Take no
action. This is all I could think of in my limited
experience-wish I could be of more help. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I'm back at it today so when I get
it solved, I post the solution.
