Is there any problem installing a SATA II HDD on a motherboard with just
SATA I connection?

In theory no as they should be backwards compatible, in practice some sata2
hd's need the 'hd jumper' set for sata1 operation (Maxtor seems to be one
that causes such probs)

Could be - A number of people find that MoBo's with SATA connectors won't
recognise SATA drives (posted solution is to check BIOS updates). The
MAXTOR 250GB SATA II jumpers to 150MB/s and works fine on my ASUS
motherboard, but not my ABIT VI7.
