PC is running Windows XP Home edition. User had auto updates turned off all
along and never ran updates. Now needs SP2. System will not allow auto
updates to be turned back on. When go to Microsoft site to download SP2
site page seems to just lock and cannot get updates. Needs SP2 for security
reasons of course, but also needs Media Player 10 and cannot get that without
SP2. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can download the full version of SP2 from this web site:

Professionals and Developers
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en

If you do not have a broadband connection, you can order an SP2
installation CD here:

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

You should receive it in a week to ten days.

Here is SP2 Download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en

Use download tools like "fresh download"
(http://www.freshdevices.com/freshdown.html) if u have a bad connection or
keep disconnected this will continue from last downloaded percentage not
starting the whole process again. ps: fresh download is free.

Or u can use a patch management software like BIGFIX (www.bigfix.com) that
will install all updates and servicepacks and u shd be able to use Windows
Update feature using IE once sp2 is downloaded and installed.
( Download bigfix here: http://www.tucows.com/get/208920_86277 )
Hope this helps...,
