I have a DVD±R/RW drive connected to my computer and i was thinking of
replacing my cd-rom drive with a new DVD burning drive. Can i have 2
DVD±R/RW drive on my computer? because i notice that many computer model
don't have this configuration. How do i find out what type of interface slot
or connection port or what interface for the dvd burner?

Yes, you can have two Dvd Burners. Just swap out your cdrom drive paying
close attention to ribbon data cable connection.
Most likely you have an IDE interface. Dvd Burners use the same interface.
I don't know if they make Dvd Burners with SATA interface yet.

"Can i have 2 DVD±R/RW drives on my computer?"
Yes - Works fine for me.

If you want to install an internal drive, you can choose between an IDE or
SATA interface. Unlike the obvious benefits SATA brings to hard drives,
however, choosing a SATA drive will not result in any performance gains
since an optical drive is not capable of reaching the throughput needed to
saturate the SATA channel. All this does is offer another option for
connecting the drive to a system, reducing cable clutter and leaving the IDE
ports open for other devices. If you want to use an external drive your
choice is between a USB of IEEE 1394 ("Firewire") inteface.

is the performance on internal DVD burner drive faster than the external DVD
burner drive or are they both the same? do you know how much energy or power
does the dvd drive take because i think that my power supply has about
200watts-240 watts.

There is currently no appreciable difference in performance between an
internal and an external optical drive, and there won't be until optical
drives themselves improve. As for power, you may be assured that your
computer's power supply will scarcely notice that you have added a second
optical drive.

I did notice a difference in burn speed between internal and external
drives... however it was on two different systems, with the system housing
the internal drive being somewhat newer...

was running external drive through a USB cable, I thought it was painfully
slow.
