I have used from time to time, other than the MS Windows XP supplied list of
wallpaper backgrounds. Ones from my own photos. They then appear in the
"list" of Backgrounds on the Desktop Tab of the Display Properties Window.

How do I remove them from this list after I stop using them as a current
wallpaper? Some I will never want to use again and the list just gets longer?
What file/ folder are they in so I can delete them? I have done a file
search and cannot locate them.

Win XP Home ed SP 2, IE 6.0

Desktop wallpaper is typically stored in C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper. Try your
search again making sure that in your Advanced search options you have
"Search system folders" checked.

(Credit Ramesh) Windows fetches image files from:

BMP Files from C:\WINDOWS

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:

C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\My Documents\My Pictures [& ALL
THE SUB-FOLDERS]
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes [*** & ALL THE SUB-FOLDERS ***]

Your photos are probably in the My Pictures folder inside of My
Documents. Move your personal photo to a new folder you make inside of
My Documents - but *outside* of My Pictures. Then when you want to use
one of those images for your Desktop background, you can browse to the
location.
